News from the Katherine
The Katherine Palliative care network group continues their solidarity to support and represent palliative care patients and the services provided in Katherine region and Katherine District Hospital. Territory Palliative Care (TPC) Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Sam Harrington travels to Katherine 3 monthly to attend the meetings and to follow up patient care as needed. The CNC’s role is pivotal in supporting health services; local community organisations; Medical General Practices’ and patients. The CNC role also provides on-going support via telephone regularly.
TPC Clinical Specialist Consultants also travel as required often to facilitate free education sessions for local health care providers. These education sessions are supported financially with light refreshments provided by Primary Health Network NT.
More broadly in recent months TPC has been invited to participate in the Community Helping Action Information Network (CHAIN). This group is representative of a broad based external and government based agencies meeting together so that community based administrative and corporations are sharing information regarding projects; funding opportunities; relevant research and other information specific to Katherine and surrounding region.
